About the Exhibit

In March of 2020 BEING Studio came together online to continue to connect and create during Ontario’s first lockdown. Artists and facilitators met on video calls to connect, create and share artwork. In this online space, bedrooms transformed into stages, kitchen tables became studios, household items became art supplies, and family transformed into creative assistants. This online space developed its own culture. A culture marked by rituals of greeting, celebration, care, creation and recognition. These rituals have been a way to expand a shared culture of access, self-determination, and interdependence. Today, we continue to meet online to form accessible spaces for exchange, exploration and connection.

About BEING Studio

BEING studio opened its doors in 2002 under the name H’Art of Ottawa. The studio supports artists with developmental disabilities who are working in visual art and creative writing.

At BEING, artists have access to the space, the tools, and the representation to create and commercialize their visual art and creative writing. Each artist is encouraged and supported in achieving their unique creative and professional goals, whether to become more prolific, profitable, or simply to find focus for their creative practice.
