Tangled Art + Disability is boldly redefining how the world experiences art and those who create it. We are a registered charitable art + disability organization dedicated to connecting professional and emerging artists, the arts community and a diverse public through creative passion and artistic excellence. Our mandate is to support Deaf, Mad and disability-identified artists, to cultivate Deaf, Mad and Disability arts for artists and audiences of all abilities.

Tangled Art + Disability is seeking Board of Directors members who will bring dedication and vision into our organization. We require persons with previous board experience and a variety of qualifications such as financial expertise, fundraising, donor relations, legal, policy development and human resources knowledge as well as familiarity with contemporary disability arts.

Currently, the Board is comprised of artists and community members with and without disabilities. We are looking to recruit individuals with disabilities with a strong social justice background in the arts. We welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Tangled is strongly committed to equity within its community and to recruiting diverse members of the Board. Tangled encourages applications from all qualified candidates including persons with disabilities, First Nations, Métis and Inuit persons, members of racialized communities and LGBTQ-identified persons.

The Tangled Board of Directors is a working/policy Board. Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings, sit on at least one Board committee and commit to serving a three-year term. Ideal candidates will help develop and implement strategies that will generate revenue, attract new supporters and build the gallery’s profile. Commitments of each Board member include:

  1. Regular attendance at monthly Board meetings and important related meetings.
  2. Active participation in the Board’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
  3. Active participation in Board committee work (average of 10 hours/per month or as needed).
  4. Staying informed about committee matters, preparing for meetings, and reviewing and commenting on minutes and reports.
  5. Learning about other board members and building a collegial working relationship that contributes to working within a consensus model.
  6. Getting to know and staying informed about the programming activities of the organization and of the arts community in Toronto generally.
  7. Participation in fundraising activities for the organization.

Board members are volunteers and therefore cannot be financially compensated for their work, or exhibit at Tangled while being on the Board.

Potential candidates for the Tangled Art + Disability Board will be interviewed in October to determine your eligibility to run for election. Eligible candidates will be notified by October 31, 2018 and their names brought forward for elections held at the Annual General Meeting in November.
